PATRIOTIC SOCIETY
WOMEN’S BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Branch of the Patriotic Society was held on Tuesday afternoon. Present were Mesdames F. A. Kitchingham, McKane, Saunders, WarneS, Parfitt, White, Smith, Reid, McLean, Mathieson, Harvey, Herring, Shallcrass and Miss Heaphy. A motion of sympathy to Mrs Collins in the loss of her father was passed, members standing in silence. Several letters of appreciation were received from men overseas, who had received gift parcels. Letters were read from the Secretary of the Provincial Council in connection with goods tfor gift parcels, and members expressed disappointment at the delay in sending these goods from headquarters in Wellington, thus causing a delay in getting parcels away from’ Greymouth. The Secretary was asked to get permission to purchase locally all goods obtainable for parcels. Instructions were received to have 536 parcels in Wellington by April 20. Donations of goods suitable, or cash donations will be gladly received. As the Red Cross Society is not conducting the shop on Friday, the committee will have change. The proceeds will be for prisoners of war parcels, and it. will be a general day. All residents of Greymouth, Cobden and Blaketown are asked to send a small donation in the way of flowers, jam, cakes, jumble or cash. Residents unable to send their donation are asked to ring ’phones 477, 732 or 224. The committee expressed the wish that offers from different organisations and sports clubs of the town be made to conduct the shop in connection with the welfare of our men overseas.
