U.S.A. Meat Ring (Rec. 9.50) NEW fORK. April 7. A nation-wide ring of meat “black market” operators was revealed when a Federal grand jury at Newark, New Jersey, indicted -itseven Mid-West and New Jersey corporations and eleven individuals on charges of conspiracy to violate price regulations, and quota restrictions. It was alleged that the defendants brought ten million pounds of meat to the New York area, and that the consumers who bought it paid two million dollars in over-charges. The jury investigation uncovered ' an elaborate black market structure in which slaughter houses and packing establishments were purchased by a ring of conspirators, and huge quantities of cattle were illegally bought, slaughtered and sold throughout the country. ■
