REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent.] REEFTON. April 2. Mrs R. McMahon left for Christchurch this morning on a short visit. Mr Ed. Downey leaves for Christchurch on transfer to the Post Office there. „ „ • The Bishop of Nelson (Rt. Rev. P. •W. Stephenson) and Mrs Stephenson are at present on a visit to Reefton. On Sunday the Bishop will conduct the service at St. Church. A pleasant function in the form of a surprise party took place on Monday night last at the residence of Mr and Mrs P. Smith, Cronadun, when friends gathered to bid farewell to their daughter, Mrs A. G. Hahn, on the eve of her departure for Auckland. The evening was spent in cards and music. After supper was served, Mr .1. J. Coghlan, on behalf of those present, presented the guest of the evening with a well-filled envelope, at the same time wishing her a long and happy wedded life. Mr Jack Smith replied on behalf of his sister in the absence of her nusband. Sergeant A. G. Hahn (N.Z.E.F.. who had left for camp). Peer stalkers are busy combing the surrounding district as the stags have commenced roaring. This roar can be - heard for many miles. At this time of the year the stags lose the velvet off their antlers and it is the pride of the stalker to secure a good head complete with antlers. Already a number of good heads have •been taken. Greymouth Bowling Club are sending rinks of players to meet the local club on Sunday in a series of matches.
