CHINESE SUCCESS ON YANGTSE. (Rec. 12.10.) CHUNGKING, Mar. 26. A Chinese communique stated: The main theatre of fighting in Central China has shifted from .the Tungting Lake area to the Central Hupeh Province north of the Yangtse, where Chinese inflicted severe casualties on enemy garrisons, recapturing many towns on the north shore of the Yangtse. and smashing a four-prong-ed Japanese drive around Kingmen. longitude, and while the United States will be primarily responsible for the remainder of the Atlantic and all the Pacific. The Council has also discussed the Soviet’s position. At least one Councillor wad insistent that the Soviet should be consulted, although Russia is not conisdered a Pacific Naval Power. But Russia is at. present prevented- from; participating in the discussions because of the' delicate balance of relations with Japan.
