U.S. Submarine s Exploits IN THE PACIFIC. WASHINGTON, March 24. The United States Navy has announced that an American submarine has torpedoed and sunk a Japanese submarine within sight of a Japanese base - r 1 (Rec. 7.30) WASHINGTON, Mar. 24. The United States Navy has listed the exploits of an unnamed American submarine .Which sank ten Japanese ships in the course of year's operations against the enemy supply lines from Indo-China to the South Pacific. The Navy revealed that the submarine sank a Japanese submarine within sight of an enemy base. Lieutenant Commander . William Gerrall is the commander of the submarine. He said this jvas. the first known instance of an American submarine sinking another submarine in this war; He said: . “We discovered the Japanese submarine while patrolling' submerged. They were, on the surface, near the base. They never saw' us. We fired a single torpedo. The Japanese submarine filled up. It sank rapidly. We saw no survivors. They never knew what hit them.” He added that his submarine saim a total of fifty thousand tons ot enemy shipping, including seven loaded cargo ships and two troop transports.
