8 .0.W. RUGBY, March 23. That the Churchill tanks had proved a match for the German Mark 6 Tiger was suggested in Parliament to-day bv Sir Stanley Reed, who instanced the fact that the Germans lost 33 tanks, when recently attacking the Eighth Army, while the British lost not a single armoured unit. The Secretary of War said that no detailed reports of the performance of the Churchill tanks in Tunisia had been received but general accounts speak favourablj' for them. Sir James' Grigg added: “Some Tigers were certainly destroyed in the recent action in which Churchill tanks were employed, blit it is not known whether the Churchills, or other tanks, were responsible. General Montgomery reported during the recent attacks by Marshal Von Rommel against the Eighth Army positions, that. 52 German tanks were damaged and afterwards blown up by our sappers. Many others must have been hit, and damaged, and some were seen beinsr towed away.’ The Turkish Military .Mission, which is visiting North Africa . today conferred with General Eisenhower and met the Allied Naval and Air Chiefs, Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham and Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder. The Mission will leave to-morrow for an unknown destination.
