CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 25. Fat sheep were cheaper at Addington yesterday, except young ewes. Bacon pigs were dearer. There were over 3000 fat lambs, with several trucks from the West Coast, some reaching the heavy grade. The highest figure was' 38s Id for a pen of five heavy lambs, and another pen of 11 made 35s 4d. The highest price for wethers was 34s 3d for a pen from a line of wellfinished close-woolled two-tooths, which ranged from 31s lOd to that figure. Good young ewes made up to 27s Id. The best old ewes made up to 19s Id. On the whole, wethers showed a decline of 2s a head on last week’s sale, and the prices for ewes remained on the same level. There were 490 fat cattle, with lines from the West Coast and southern districts, but quality was not up to recent standards. The market generally was irregular. Values were: Extra prime steers to £lB l<s 6d; prime heavy steers £l6 to £l7 15s - prime medium-weight steers £l4 to £l5 15s; ordinary steers £l2 5s to £l3 15s; light steers to £l2; extra prime heifers to £l4 lis 6d, prime heifers £lO to £l2 10s; medium heifers £8 5s to £9 10s; light heifers £6 5s to £8; extra prime cows to £l4 2s 6d; prime cows £8 to £lO ss; medium cows £6 10s to £7 15s; light cows to £6 ss. ph Best runners made from £6 3s (>ct to £7 13s 6d, medium £4 8s 6d to Ij 9s 6d. Vealers made better prices, best making to £4 15s and others £3 to £4 ss. Fresh cows for grazing made from £5 5s to £5 15s, with odd ones to £6 8s Gd, and inferior down to £4 Best store lambs made from l<s bd to 19s, and other good lines from 16s to 17s 6d, medium to good 13s to 15s 3d. cj a Light porkers sold from 47s 6d to 54s 6d, medium 57s 6d to £3 2s 6d, heavy £3 5s 6d to £3 12s Gd; choppers £3 13s 6d to £7 8s Gd; lignt baconers £3 19s 6d to £4 9s 6d; medium £4 10s 6d to £4 19s 6d; heavy £5 2s 6d to £5 19s 6d. Small weaners 12s to 18s, best 20s to 245; slips 28s to 31s; small stores 33s to 375; medium 38s to 425; large up to 455. Store sheep formed a large entry. The bulk were backward and had a slow sale. There were few wethers. The best price was 40s for Romney two-tooth ewes and there were several sales of similar sheep at between 34s and 375. The highest for half-bred two-tooths was 335, and other sales were from 27s to that figure while slightly inferior sheep realised from 22s to 25s 6d. Halfbred four-year-old ewes made from 16s to 21s, and others of that age from 15s 6d to 18s 4d. Inferior to medium ewes made from 5s to 9s.
