REEFTON, Feb. 16,
Miss White, of Nelson, who .has been on a visit to her sister, Mrs C. Haldane, has returned. Mrs McWha, of Murchison, is visiting Reefton. Mrs Heald, of Nelson, arrived by rail-car and is the guest of Mr and Mrs Alf Walker, Cronadun. Mrs Christie and family have returned after spending a holiday in the North Island.
After almost five years in the district, the Rev. D. S. Evans, of the Vicarage, has been transferred to Motupiko. Whilst in Reefton Mr Evans proved a good friend to the sick and needy. Both he and his wife have always been willing workers for the good of the district. Miss Peggy Dalmer’s illness is causing her relatives grave concern. On Sunday the local Bowling Club was favoured with a visit from the Westport Club. The visitors were met on arrival of the rail-car and driven to the green, where the president, Mr C. J. Willis, welcomed them. In the play Westport proved the winners, the green being in perfect order. Next Sunday Reefton. will play a return match at Westport, and the following Sunday the i R.S.A. of Westport will visit here. Arrangements have now been finalised with the advance agent for the R.N.Z.A.F. Band for the forthcoming visit. To enable people working in essential industries to hear the Band, a special programme will be played at 7 p.m. when a collection will be taken up. Doubleunit rail-cars will be run from both Greymouth and Westport on the ordinary timetable. This will allow extra seating for any country people desiring to make the trip. Five rinks of bowlers from, the Westport Bowling Club visited Reefton on Sunday and played the local Club. The day was fine, the greens being in excellent order, and the competition was’ very keen indeed. The visitors were provided with, afternoon tea, dispensed by the ladies.
