FREE MEDICAL SERVICE
Australian Proposals N.Z. ADVICE OBTAINED. CANBERRA, Feb. 8. Plans for a free Australian medical service will be discussed this week by the Commonwealth Government representatives and the New Zealand Social Security officeis now on a special mission here. The New Zealand delegation com< prises Mr Digby Smith and Mr Von Keisenberg. They are to consult with the Federal Social Security Parliamentary Committee and the Prime Minister (Mr Curtin). Points in the plan to be discussed are: (1) Free service to the community by doctors; (2) free hospital accommodation; (3) free medicine; and (4) free dental attention, Its advocates hope that the plan may be implemented before the life of the present Parliament expires. Th e New Zealand delegation will be asked to advise on the financial aspects of the New Zealand scheme and the experience of the New’ Zealand Government in obtaining co-op-eration from the medical profession, as well as on the Dominion’s experience in providing Social Security benefits for unemployed, for widows and their dependants and for orphans.
