BURMA FRONT

LONDON, Feb. 7. Hurricanes have begun a new series of attacks on enemy-occupied positions in Burma, concentrating mainly on transports. Locomotives and trucks were the targets in sweeps along the Akyab Island sector. Spitfires shot up factories and villages in the Chindwin River area, and attacks were also made on villages round Rathedaung and shipping off Akyab Island. Wellington bombers did widespread damage to the railway marshalling yards at Mandalay. A British communique from India states that Saturday’s raid by Hurricanes on offensive patrol caused considerable damage to enemy transport in Burma. Various targets were successfully attacked. Three locomotives and a military lorry were destroyed and about 40 railway trucks, eight locomotives, three petrol tanks and some small factories were damaged. None of our aircraft is missing.
