DERAILMENT at PETONE. p.A. WELLINGTON, Jan., 27 A derailment occurred in the Petone shunting yard at 7.34 a.m. today, blocking the main line, and causing delay 'to suburban trains. A long rake ‘of wagons was being ■shunted, when one went off the at the points, drawing a number, oi the others with it, and blocking the outward main line. All traffic had to be handled on a single track and delays were from nine to 16 minutes.
INQUEST ON CHINESE. p.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. A verdict of suicide, while of an unsound mind, was returned by the District Coroner (Mr C. W. Wood) in the adjourned inquest mto the death of James Guthrie, otherwise Ng Kam Leung, a Chinese market gardener of Temuka, aged 22, who jumped in front, of a train close to the Springfield road crossing on January 20 . The fireman on the train, William George Copping, of Timaru said he saw a man come out of the trees beside the line. As the train went past he threw himself under the engine.
