ROLL OF HONOUR
SERGT. WM. JOHN CORNISH. Seregant-Wireless Operator-Air Gunner William John Cornish, son of Mr and Mrs P. Cornish, of Kokiri, was reported as having been killed in action in air operations on October 16 last.
SEAMAN CYRIL PANTHER. Confirmation of previous adyice of the death, through enemy action, of their son, Ordinary Seaman Cyril Panther, has now been received by Mr and Mrs A. Panther, of Blaketown. The late Seaman Panther, who was in his twentieth year, had an adventurous experience in the service of the Mercantile Marine since leaving Greymouth to join up two years ago. He served in three ocean-going ships, and each of them was torpedoed, the third one going down with all hands. His first torpedoing was on the Atlantic, and his second in the Mediterranean. Educated at the Grey Main School, he was employed for over three years on the staff of Messrs Duncan McLean and Co. before he went to sea. A little over a year ago, at Christmas, 1941. he paid a visit to his parents, besides whom he leaves two brothers, Albert, who is serving in the Middle East, and Charles, an employee at the State Collieries,
