U-BOAT CAMPAIGN
MORE SERIOUS THREAT. WASHINGTON, Jan. 22. “It will take all the strength and ingenuity of the United Nationss to , defeat the U-boat campaign,” said Admiral Sir Percy Noble at a press conference in Washington. “Unless the submarine menace is overcome Britin may lose her sea power. The menace is so grievous that we must find an answer, within the next few months. The only answer is escort ships, more escort ships and still more escort ships. I believe that the answer will be found in London.” U-BOAT BASES BOMBED. (Rec. 7.30.) RUGBY, Jan. 23. The Air Ministry and United States Headquarters announced that Flying Fortresses attacked submarine bases at L’Orient and Brest on Saturday. Visibility was good, and excellnt results were obtained. Squadrons of Dominion and Allied fighters coverd the bombers as far as Brittany. Enemy fighter opposition was encountered in the target, area. A number were destroyed. Five of the American bombers are missing.
