BLOOD TRANSFUSION. 8.0.W. RUGBY, Jan. 8. The King has given permission for the opening of a station taking blood for transfusion service in Windsor Castle. It will be in operation for some days, when members of the Royal household and other estate employees will give blood for the use of the armies in North Africa. LONDON, Jan. 9.
Acting to block assistance to possible invaders, the Norwegian authorities have decreed that all males must report for labour duty the moment an invasion begins, states the Stockholm correspondent of the “New York Times.” Hostage lists have been amended to include prominent ecclesiastics and leaders of all groups of society, who will be executed it civilians jjoin the invaders. Paris. radio says that M. Laval is olarining a new purge to “eliminate all dangerous elements from the Vichy administration.” According to the German radio, the purge applies to all officials, irrespective of rand, who are opposing the Government. > Pre-service training to make youths fit for the Army is now being carried out in Britain with the object of assisting them to be hard and fit when the time arrives for them to join the Army. Each command has instituted holiday classes, at which schoolboys will spend about nine days. They take the same courses as the enrolled soldiers and the pay is a. nominal sum for living expenses. The boys parade at daylight and continue physical work or lectures until dark. They carry out the same exercises as the men, but without ammunition. Great emphasis is laid on the inculcating of leadership. The classes are stated to be most nopular and they will be continued during the school holidays throughout the war. Those boys attending will return to school and act as instructors during the term.
