SOLDIERS’ PARCELS
In a. late report from Cairo, Colonel Waite, New r Zealand representative of the National Fund Board, Wellington, stated: “A few parcels'are bacllv wrapped in flimsy paper and broken. Wo get parcels to Malta, Cyprus. Baghdad, etc., in perfect order. These are the carton packed ones which stand up to anv amount of rough handling. The parcels scheme is a great success. The gift parcels scheme is probably the best welfare work of its kind done in, any of the armjes. The men are very grateful, as letters show. Doi not let the people of New Zealand got the impression that the gift parcel and gift tobacco schemes arc unappreciated. The parcels go to our furtherest out men in desert camps and desert hospitals, and to sailors and airmen whenever w'e can End them. We certainly find 99 per cent, of our men serving in the Middle East.”
From Malta: “I can assure you the kind thoughts of the people of New Zealand are appreciated greatly in this little island. On behalf of the New 7 Zealanders here, I thank you very, Very much indeed.” Note. —There are nineteen New Zealanders on the little island. The Greymouth and Hokitika packing is all done in eartons now.
