GREY PIPE BAND

ANNUAL- REPORT The following is the sixth annual report of the Greymouth Highland Pipe Band, which is to be presented by the secretary (Mr M. B. Charters) to the annual meeting of the band to he held in Petrotti Hall tomorrow evening:— After working under the difficulties of another war-time year I have pleasure in announcing that our band is still numerically as strong as ever and financially has shown a credit of £l5 on' the' year, making our P. 0.5.8. balance £BO 13s 2d, cash assets recoverable £4 10s, with other assets, such as uniforms, furniture and band equipment at £4OO. Liabilities stand as nil. Public parades have been fewer, owing to petrol restrictions, but visits have been made to Moana, Taylorville, Hokitika, Cobden and Blaketown, as well as Friday evening parades in town, the hospital on Sundays, and helping at Patriotic Sunday evening concerts The band conducted the Second Annual Piping and Dancing Competitions last August, which were another outstanding success, thanks being due to Mesdames Trott, McMillan and Nott, who worked in conjunction with the band officials, also the principals of the two local dancing schools (Misses Trott and Sinnott) for their large entries of dancing competitors. During the year we lost Piper Di Batty, who has joined the Forces, and trust he will again be back among us at. a later date. Sickness among members was much in evidence during the year, namely our instructor, Mr D. K. Finlay, Drum Major O. McLean, P/Sergeant. WBlackmun and Pipers D. Boyle and K. Batty, but all are now again back in the ranks with renewed vigour. Thanks are extended to patrons of the Saturday night euchres for their attendance, which augment band funds. In conclusion we thank the Press for courtesies extended in their news columns and the general public for their generous support and hope .for another serviceable year for all concerned
