ELECTRICIAN KILLED

EXPLOSION FATALITY. DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 31. While preparing yesterday afternoon ia submarine charge that was to have been used for instructional purposes, in connection with battle practice to have been staged .later in the afternoon by students of itheCentral District School of Instruction, Sergeant Desmond Laurence Delaney twenty-three, Marton, of the instructional staff, Was killed instantly by a premature explosion. His head was badly shattered. The presumption was expressed' at the inquest that deceased’s hand either caught in the string attached to the trip switch, or he may have slipped in the mud and released the switch. Deceased had done this class of work elsewhere, was an efficient instructor, and knew his job, having demonstrated at similar explosions previously. The Coroner’s formal finding was death was due to injuries consequent on the premature and accidental discharge of gelignite.
