■ PUBLIC NOTICES GREYMOUTH EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS SERVICE. nr-HE Lighting Restrictions Orders, 1942, were gazetted on the 20th August, 1942, and Wardens are now required to see that the -Orders are obeyed.- Occupiers ’ of premises should note that, amongst other provisions :— 1. The Lighting Restrictions apply from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise. 2. Any windows or doorways visible from the sea must be blacked out. or the lights not used. 3. Any windows or- doorways not visible from the open sea must be covered by screens equivalent to a biege-coloured holland blind or the lights not used. 4. Outside lights or porch lights must have the bulbs removed, unless a written permit has been obtained from the Lighting Controller. Permits will be granted only in exceptional circumstances. 5. Light sources in shops and shopwindows shall not be visible from any point outside the shop, even though the lamp bulb may be enclosed in an opal bowl or light-colour-ed shade; otherwise the regulations for this class of lighting are not altered. 6. All occupiers of premises must provide for the complete blackingout of sufficient space to accommodate the maximum number of person likely to be on the premises at night. The Wardens will ask for a demonstration, and must not be refused. 7. In premises generally, all lights must be turned off, unless there is a responsible person in attendance on the premises, or unless all openings have been covered with black-out screens. 8. During an emergency, use the blacked-out rooms, and see that no light whatever is visible from the outside. 9. Vehicle Lighting Restrictions have no been altered. 10. There are many other details, which are fully covered in the New’ Zealand Gazette No. 78 of the 20th August. 1942, and also No. 91 of Sth October, 1942. SOCIAL SECURITY CONTRIBUTION AND NATIONAL SECURITY TAX.] Charge on Income other than Salary or Wages: November Instalment. rpHE third quarterly instalment of; A the Social Security Charge and National Security Tax of 2/6d in the £ on income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended 31st March, 1942, falls due on Ist November. Amounts unpaid within one month following the. due date •incur 10 per cent, penalty. The charge is payable by—(a> All persons aged 16 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand (including natives but excluding persons receiving total disability war pensions in respect of service in tne 1914-1919 war).

(b) All companies, other than those specifically exempted. (c) All trustees in respect of income derived by the estate or trust, whether or not the beneficiaries are entitled to receive such income during the income year. Payment may be made at any money-order 1 office upon pr oduction of the previous receipt or remitted to the Commissioner of Taxes, Wellington, together with the previous receipt or full particulars thereof. Social Security Registration Fee: A quarterly instalment (5/-) is payable on Ist November by male persons aged 20 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand who are not exempt. Exemption details and forms may be obtained at money-order offices. Every person entitled to exemption (including those receiving Age Benefits under the Social Security Act but no other income) must complete the exemption application form and present it with his coupon-book at a money-order office within 7 days after the last day for payment of the instalment, otherwise payment may be demanded. Full name arid postal address must be entered on the relative coupon before payment of any instalment. An employer employing for more than seven days a person unregistered or in arrear with the Registration Fee is liable on summary conviction to a fine of £2O. All persons ordinarily resident in New Zealand must register under the Social Security Act within one month of attaining the age of sixteen and obtain a couponbook. Any person who fhils to register within the time allowed commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of £5O. J. M. PARK, Commissioner of Taxes.
