Dr. W. A. Riddell, High Commissioner for Canada in New Zealand, is still in hospital, but it reported to be making good progress. He was taken ill suddenly with a heart seizure about a month a'go. Adjutant and Mrs. R. McDonald, who have been in charge of the Salvation Army Corps in Greymouth for the past eighteen months have been transferred to, St. Albans, Christchurch, and will leave on Monctay. Lieutenant C. G. Roberts, who has been at Brunnerton for the past nine months will leave on Monday on transfer to New Brighton. Captain and Lieutenant I. Wakefield of Sumner, have been appointed to Greymouth, together with a Second Lieutenant from the Training College, whose name has not yet been announced.
Mr. John Collis Blomfield, who was for many years on the advertising staff of the “New Zealand Observer,’’ died at Auckland on Monday. A brother of the cartoonist, Mr W. Blomfield, he- also contributed a large number of cartoons to the same paper. He joined the “Observer” staff early in the century, leaving after a few years to work with the “Free Lance” in Wellington, which was then controlled by the same company as the “Observer.” Leaving Wellington during the last war, Mr. Blomfield started a small paper, the “Victoria Mirror,” .in Devonport. In 1922 he returned to the “Observer,” where he was employed until his death. He is survived by four sons and a daughter, the eldest son being “Lofty” Blomfield, the professional wrestler.
