At the Buller gold tournament, tlie ladi.es’ medal match on Monday morning was won by Mrs Hawes ot Market Cross, and the Canadian toursome was won bv Mr G. Hawes and Miss D. Brown. On Sunday afternoon, the men’s bogey match was won by Mr T. Broker. The Patriotic Committee acknowledges the following donations for the £lO,OOO Appeal: Mokihinui Valiev Patriotic Committee £9 18s; Anonymous £5; O.A.P. £1; Mill Street ss. A seaman, Andrew Hughes was arrested bv the police in Westport on Monday evening, on a charge of unlawful conversion of a motor-cycle the property of James Forsythe. He appeared before Messrs A. Taylor and G. Aitken, J’s. P.. on Tuesday, and was fined £5, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Sergeant Holt conducted the case for the police. Thp .popular card evening held at the Westport Bowling Cfub’s pavilion every Tuesday came to a close last evening. The proceeds were given to the Crippled Children’s Society, and amounted to £35. The Club is to be congratulated on the splendid ic- , sponse throughout the year. Over £2OO has been raised for patriotic and other deserving institutions. The natrons will look forward to next year's activities. Mr D. McGill of Christchurch, Is paying a business visit to Westport, j Mr G. R. Harker. Director E.P.S. ; Controller, accompanied by Colonel Churchward, Regional Commissioner, will visit Westport to-day and meet Westport E.P.S. control tnfs evening. The following persons have been selected by the Westport Branch of the N.Z. Labour Party for the National Executive positions: President, Mr J. Roberts; Vice-President, Mr J. Thorn, M.P.; Secretary-Treasurer. Mr M. Moohan; Central Executive, Messrs T. Brindle, M.L.C., P. Dowse, R. Eddy, M.L.C., J. O. Johnson and R Holland; Area Officer, Mr M. Meachen, M.P. The death took place at Christchurch yesterday of Margaret Constance, wife of Mr Harold James Tayloc of Brougham Street, after a brief illness. Deceased, a member of the Pratt family, was a native of Seddonville, 23 years of age. She is survived by a sorrowing husband and two young children, to whom, along with the parents and family, deepest sympathy is extended in their sad bereavement.
The Mayor, Mr J. M. Robertson, received the following telegram from the Hon. P. C. Web.b; "Just learned th P sad news of the death of another estimable Westport citizen, in the person of Miss Elizabeth Morgan. I join with you and other townsfolk in expressing my very deepest sympathy in her loss, as both she and her late brother lived long bn the Coast and learned to love it. I am sure the Coast will regret her death.”
