Illegal Operation
HIRT SENTENCED. • "DUNEDIN, Oct. 8. Sentence of three years and six months’ hard labour was passed by Mr. Justice Kennedy on Henn Arthur Hirt 49 whose conviction on a charge of the unlawful use of an instrument was affirmed by the Appeal Court. , Counsel (Mr. White) said thsrt fresh evidence had come to light and in all probability an application would be made for a new trial. Hirt, " e was born in Switzerland, and studied medicine there. . The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. Adams) said the police have heard something of this new evidence, and attach no imoortance to it whatsoever. In passing sentence, the Judge said. Your action was no doubt the cause of death of the misguided woman who sought your aid.

WELLINGTON, Oct. 8.
Raymond John Watts, 28, Air Force Sergeant, formerly a buyer for Woolworth’s (New Zealand), Ltd., who had pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court, to ten. charges of theft, tercharges of failure to account, one charge of forgery, and one charge under the Secret Commissions Act, today, in the Supreme Court, reversed the plea, and was sentenced by Judge Elair to terms of imprisonment amounting to three years and three months. The amount involved in the charges exceeded £16,000.
