(Our Own Correspondent) Mrs S. Williams, who has been visiting Otago, returned .home on Tuesday night. Mr E. Anthony and daughters, who have been in Christchurrh. have returned home. , _ Miss J. Russell, W.A.A.F. and Mr p Russell, former residents of Brunner, visited the district during the week-end. , Ptes. P. Walton and D. Pollock have returned to camp. Mr C- Dixon left for a military camp last week. Mr and Mrs F. Breeze, of Hokitika, were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Falconer, during the week-end. Mrs Barsby, of Christchurch, is visiting her daughter, Mrs G. Nimmo, of Taylorville. As numerous enquiries have been made recently concerning Bill Ramsay. who worked at Wallsend Mine before! enlisting in the Air Force, the following letter from his commanding officer will be of interest. —“Dear Mr Ramsay, I deeply regret to. confirm that your son. Sergeant William Robertson Ramsay, failed to return from a raid over Germany. His crew were detailed to attack a target well into enemy territory, but after taking off no further signal was received from them. However, I feel and pray that we may hear during the next few weeks that all the members of this very valuable crew are safe and well, though in the hands of the enemy. They were captained by a pilot of great skill, who would do his utmost to preserve their safety. If we‘ hear any news it will be passed! on to you immediately. Your son was an excellent wireless operator-air gunner, and his cheerful disposition will be sadly missed by his many friends on the squadron. His loss is a heavy one to the squadron, and to the cause for which he was fighting. The officers and n.c.o’s. of his squadron join with us in expressions of deepest sympathy with you in your time or anxiety and sorrow.” Word has later been received that Bill Ramsay is presumed dead.
