SEIZED BY U.S. NAVY

PLANT WHERE STRIKE OCCURRED (Rec. 7.40) WASHINGTON, ,Aug. 17. Colonel Knox, Navy Secretary, has telegraphed to the leader of the employees at the General Cable Company plant at Bayonne, in New 1 Jersey, advising that the Navy has seized the works, where there has been a dispute between the men and the employers. Col. Knox stated that the Navy’s seizure of the plant must under no circumstances be construed as an endorsement of the strikers’ action, which was a dangerous threat to the success of the national effort in a critical emergency. Col. Knox declared that the Navy had too much fighting to do to be managing plants which should be operating in an American way under their own management.
