RAILS NOT IN USE
RETURNS REQUIRED. P.A. WELLINGTON, July 23. A notice published in the gazette requires returns to be made to the Secretary of Supply, of rails not in use throughout the Dominion. In an explanatory statement the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) said that the problem of providing the necessary materials and equipment for the Dominion’s timber and coal mining industries had become acme. As one step to meet the requirements of tho.se industries and maintain New Zealand’s production of those two important commodities a survey was being made of ail unused rails except tram rails.
