Damage caused by the _ recent stormy weather was a large iteni in the report presented by the engineer (Mr. Sinclair Trotter) at last evening’s meeting of the Grey Power Board. The report stated: —The outside staff have been engaged on general maintenance of lines, transformer substations, and connecting new consumers. Bad weather has been responsible for damage to lines in various localities, but nothing of a serious extensive nature occurred. Extensive damage was done to mining property in the Ten Mile Creek, but on this occasion onlv one! pole in the board’s line was caught by a slip. At the Old Nelson Creek Ford above Ngahere. the stream has changed its course, and is now running along the route of the board’s line for some distance. and I recommend that this short section of line be brought out on to the new main highwav. this will shorten the stretch of line in question, and make it more accessible for maintenace. and also the line would not be accessible bv flood waters. A break occurred on the Tay-lorville-Blackball road 11,000 volt feeder, one pole being pushed over bv the slip, which occurred there recently. Another interruption occurred on the 11,000 volt line feeding Blackwater Mines, on July 8. due to nrevious damage caused bv rifle fire. The engineer was authorised to shift the line above Ngahere. • After being blocked by snow for some time the Otira Gorge Road was opened for traffic to Arthur’s Pass yesterday.
