London Estimate CHINA MAIN OBJECTIVE. LONDON,' June 14. The writer “Scrutator,” in an article in the “Sunday Times,” voices the opinion that Japan’s leading motive at present would appear to be brushing indepehdent China and also in checking American approaches to Japan across the Pacific. As" illustrations, he cites the attacks against China from Burma, and also Chekiang and Fukien, together with the moves against the Aleutians and Miaway. Chekiang and Fukien selected .for an attack following the Tokia raid, when American aircra landed in China. This alarmed the Japanese, who want to occupy ican ese aerodromes before America bombers can operate Midattack against the Aleutians way sprang from a new fear of the Americans moving across the Nort P “qoriitator” suggests that, while there is small chance. of the initiative passing to America in the near fu fure, yet Japan’s .initiative may henceforth be cu^ a ‘ le |' The Japanese have now lost four aircrait carriers in a shorter space of time than it is believed they can replace them and may well be chary of sending their remaining carriers far from the beaten track. Australia should benefits thereby. It is not thought the Japanese will attack Russia, while Australia remains uninvaded, China unconquered, and Almerica is erouping her forces nearer to Japan. It is believed that Japan’s greatest threat to-day is against China.
