TWO SINKINGS IN SOUTH ATLANTIC (Rec. 8.0) WASHINGTON, June 13 The U S Navy has announced that a medium-sized* United States merchantman has been torpedoed 70 miles from the coast of Brazil. Sne was also shelled. The Navy states that a mediumc’zed British vessel has met a similar fate 200 miles from the southern coast of the United States. Twenty-four survivors of the American ship have reached Brazil, after drifting for twenty-four hours. One of the crew was lost. Four of the crew were kilkd aboard the British vessel. Sixty-four men took to three lifeboats One a So boats has reached the shore w, h twenty survivors. The otner uw boats are missing.
