Aircraftman E. E. Creagh, who has been visiting his mother in Hokitika, will return, to his Air Force station this evening.

The funeral took place yesterday of Mr. Robert Joseph Glen, of Cobden. There was a.very big attendance, and various units of the Home Guard formed a bodyguard, and provided a firing party. Mr. M. Garth sounded the “Last: Post. The services at the house and graveside were conducted b v Rev. A. C. Harding.

A Sydney cable states:—For an act of gallantry seven year ago, the avaitor. Captain P. G. TayMr, was presented on Saturday, by the Governor of N.S.W., General Lord Gowrie, with the first George Medal to be obtained in Australia. The Empire Medal was originally awarded to Captain Taylor. This was surrendered by him to be replaced bv the George Medal. The deed that gained the medal took place during a flight, across the Tasman Sea in 1935, with the late Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Captain Taylor crawled; on to a wing to repair an engine.

The death occurred in Greymouth last evening of Captain John William King, formerly Wharf Superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company at Dunedin, a position which ho had held for seventeen years. Captain King, who was sixtyfive years of age, was born in Dunedin, and all an early age went to sea in sail. He joined the Union Company in 1900, and in 1911 was brought ashore, and after holding various appointments became Wharf Superintendent at Dunedin in 1924. He came to Greymouth two months ago to retire.' His .wife is of the late Mr. and Mrs. Haglund Marsden Road. .He is survived bv one daughter, Mrs. A. S. Dalgleish (Sydney), .one brother, Mr. Thomas King and two sisters... Miss Marv King. M.A. (Girl’s High School, Dunedin), and Miss Helen King (Dunedin). The funeral will 1 ' leave Marsden Road tomorrow for the Karoro Cemetery.
