PROMOTION TO LIEUT.-GEN. P.A.- WELLINGTON, June 3. Major. General Sir Bernard C. Freyberg has been granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-General. Announcing this, the Minister of Defence (Hon.. F. Jones) said that this further promotion was yet another well-deserved honour for a soldier whose whole career had been

marked by fearless courage and distinguished leadership, and who had, through his ■ command of the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East during this war inspired. Dominion troops overseas to continue and add to the fine record of ’ the New Zealand forces in the last war.
