PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

WAR BAN IN AUSTRALIA. (Rec. 6.30). CANBERRA, Maw 24. Racing and all other organiser, sport on public holidays is to be banned in Australia for the duration of the war, but the ban will not apply to the week-end. This follows th< Prime Minister, Mr. /Curtin’s state ment, that in future all men in the defence industries will not be grant ed public holidays.

The Government attitude is that it would be unfair for the defence industry workers to be prevented from having a day off on public holidays when organised sport was being conducted for other workers. It is felt that the situation is such that it now demands that every dav of the week should be regarded as a working day.
