The Grev district primary schools wisl resume to-day after the vacation, and the secondary schools will resume to-morrow.
Of fortv-three men medically examined at Greymouth last week, ‘ 27 were passed fit, 12 were c.wssed temporarily unfit, and the grading of rour was deferred.

West Coast members of a draft ctf N.Z.E.F. men, who have been sent home and medically boarded at Auckland, are as follows:—Temporary Lance-Corporal A. W. Todd, Greymouth; Private C. J. Boyd, Rimu; Private F. W. Fischer, Punakaiki.
George Mouatt, a seaman of the auxiliary vessel, Te Aroha, aged 42 years, married, whose wife resides at Wellington, fell into the Little Wanganui River on Friday night, when going aboard the vessel-, and was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered.—P.A.
The Christchurch-Greymouth express was an hour late on Saturday evening, not arriving here until 5.20 p.m. Over 800 passengers travelled by the express on Saturday, about 420 travelling to Greymouth and about 350 to Christchurch. The increase in passengers was due to the return of parents and children to their homes after the school vacation. i ■
The dispute regarding transport by the Strongman and James State Mines, which caused those collieries to be idled on Friday, has been satisfactorily settled, and the miners will resume to-day. Discussions took place on Saturday between the Railway Department, the Miners’ Union. the bus proprietor and th e Mine Management, but no arrangement was made until a mass meeting of miners at Runanga yesterday.

The use of fog-lamns in addition to dipped headlights in'reduced lighting areas is contrary to the regulations, according to an official statement by the E.P.S. authorities in Christchurch. Instructions have been given to traffic inspectors to prevent I.hc use of fog lamps, even when dipped The central committee of the EP S. considered that by using the lamps, mctor.sts are evading the regulations It was also reported to the committee that motorists were getting slack in the observance of the regulations, even (though there had been eighteen prosecutions. Manymotorists were st’.il driving with two headlights in the restriction area.

Two motor vehicles were involved in an accident which might have had more serious consequences, at the corner of Murray and Alexander Streets shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. However, no one was injured and the cars were only slightly damaged. A milk van driven by Frederick Alexander Warren, milk .vendor, of Taylorville, travelling east along Murray Street,- collided at the intersection with a private car driven by Harold Baddely Brownrigg, of 10 Devon Street, Greymouth, who was driving from his home down Easson’s Hili. The scene of the accident was the place where a serious accident occurred about, two years ago, and has always been a dangerous corner for motorists.
