WEST COAST DEFENCE
In North Island PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT. p.A. WELLINGTON, May 24. _ After his official visit to Taranaki, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), returned to Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Fraser, who was accompanied by General Puttick, made the visit at the invitation of the Taranaki Memoers of Parliament to discuss Home Guard, E.P.S., and general war matters with the people of the district. The Prime Minister’s party left Wellington on Tuesday and attended a military display at Palmerston North that afternoon. They proceeded to Wanganui, where the v stayed the night. On Wednesday morning they met . Taranaki Members of Parliament at Patea. They then visited Haiwera and Opunake. On Thursday they called at Eltham and went on to Stratford, wnere the Prime Minister and General Puttick addressed a public meeting in the evening. Next day they visited Inglewood, and then proceeded to New Plymouth, where, as at other points, Mr. Fraser was accorded a civic reception on Friday, after which they inspected defence works in tne loca/ity. AC all places visited the Prime Minister discussed Home Guard and E.P.S. problems with local organisations concerned, and was given a cordial welcome wherever ne spoke.
