(Our Own Correspondent? In a late casualty list, Corporal T. M. Savage was reported as having been killed in action in the Libyan campaign on November 27, last. Tom was one of the stalwarts of the Ahaura League Football Club, and paid many visits to Waiuta, where he was very popular. He clayed the game both on and off the field. “Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his friends.” might well be written about the deceased. To his sorrowing relatives is extended the sincere sympathy of the community.

Mr F. Kittenberg, who is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, i» making satisfactory progress. Sapper W. P. Rodden and Sappei F. Mattson, N.Z.E.F., are spending a few days’ leave here as the guests of Mr and Mi's J. Rodden. Mr and Mrs W. G. Harris, and Miss Reece Harris, who have been spending a holiday in Christchurch, have returned. Miss Jean Rose, who is an inmatcof the Reefton Hospital, is making good progress. Mrs P. Conners,' who has been spending a holiday in Reefton as-the guest of Mrs McKane, has returned. Privates R. Beard, D. Robertson and E. Pascoe and Sapper P. Williams are spending leave here witn their respective parents. Mrs J. Rodden, who has been an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, has returned home, and is making a good recovery. , Mr W. Gidley. who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, has returned. Mrs E. Myall and Mrs Jim Young are visiting' Christchurch. A highlight of the opening of tne football season, will be a match race between “Tiger” Ryan and “Farmer Williams. The distance is 50 yards, and a substantial side-wager is be ing placed. “Coolibah” is superintending Tiger’s preparation, and m a work-out on Thursday evening, good time was recorded. “Farmer’ who is trained privately at “Shin Bone Alley,” by Dick Whyte, Senr., is carrying a good deal of condition, but will be in good fettle by Saturdciy week. The proceeds are to he divided between the Patriotic Fund and the local Football Club. Ihe local team meet Grey Valley next Sunday at Ikamatua in their first game of the season.
