LIBERTY LOAN
GREYMOUTH DISTRICT EFFORT.
The Liberty Loan receipts for the Greymouth Postal District so far amount to £22,605. This total which includes subscriptions effected through the Trading Banks, the Post Office, and the Sharebrokers, is made up as follows:—■ £ Hokitika 21.475 Greymouth 930 Watar.ua 100 Reefton 50 Brunnerton 30 Jackson’s Bay 20 The Greymouth National Savings Committee which is promoting the district as well as the local campaign feels that £200,000 is the goal to be achieved if this district is to feel justified in the effort it makes towards the Liberty Loan. The people of this district must realise that the very life of this country is dependent on th e success or otherwise of our war loans. The successful flotation of each war loan is a certain mow to the morale of the enemy, because he reads in them the will of the people to fight to the last ditch. He realises that the nation is united and that is ciizens will no longer perm.t illequipped troops to go to the front. If you fail to back your country’s economic war effort, you add to the morale of the enemy. The goal set for this 'district is well within the capacity of the people and it is hoped that when the final figures go up that this belief wifi 1 have been justified.
With the curtailment of industry and commerce throughout New Zealand due to war conditions, there must be millions of pounds immobilised and now lying idle in the hands of firms and individuals. These funds could now be invested to advantage in the Liberty Loan, which offers a sound investment at a fair rate of interest which is payable half-yearly. With the lowering on the Ist of June of rhe interest rate in the Post Office and Trustee Savings Banks to 2i per cent, and with a much lower rate of interest ruling far fixed deposits in the Trading Banks, there is now every inducement to invest in the Liberty Loan. It should be remembered that investments in the Loan have the backing of the whole resources of this country and no better backing could any investment have. Firms and individuals possessing- funds at present lying idle should assist the country in its hour of need by investing such funds in the War Loan. Money at ca’l in all investment institutions, will, if invested in this Loan, considerably assist the defence of our beloved country.
