KERCH PENINSULA

Enemy Occupation

Indicated

LONDON, May IS. The mid-day Moscow communique reports strenuous fighting in the neighbourhood of the town of Kerch in the Crimea.

A Moscow report yesterday said that a struggle w'as going on in Kerch itself.

The Russians bitterly defended the town of Kerch. . The whole terrain ’ was literally covered with mines, which were exploded by distant contact in most unexpected places. One report said-the Russians broke out of a German encirclement, and L that they still held the Yenikal ’ coastal area. The view taken in London is that 1 though the Russians here are still resisting in small parties, the Ger- L mans virtually hold the town; The enemy attacked heavily with T artillery and 'tanks and succeeded in breaking through, but at heavy cost. :-A
