Mr J. H. Morgan left last evening for Christchurch.
The death of Sir Thomas Oliver, aged 89, eminent physician and an authority on industrial diseases has occurred at London.
A London cable message states that President Roosevelt’s envoy. Colonel Johnson, arrived from India, enroute..for the United States. He is in ill health. .
Passengers by yesterdays express to Christchurch included: Miss a. Mead (New Plymouth), Mr B. LCasey, Mr. (and Mrs. C. Bnnsden (Wellington), Flight Sergeant E. D. Milne.
The West Coast Rugby League, at its meeting last evening, decided io send a letter of sympathy to Mrs j . Hahn, of Ahaura, mother of Corporal T. Savage, who was recently reported killed in action.
The appointment of Mr Alan Grant, of Waimate, as Government representative on the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board was announced last night by Hon. J. G: . Barclay (Minister of Agriculture). Mr Grant, who is a prominent stud sheep breeder, takes the place of Mr A. S. Holmes, who recently retired, The appointment is from Jflne I.—P.A.

The death of Mr James Lawn occurred at the Reefton Hospital on Monday evening, following a lengthy illness. Born at Black’s Point 65 years ago, deceased was a member of the Inangahua Silver Band for many years. He was a miner and also conducted a butchery business at Reefton for many vears. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters; also one brother and three sisters. The funeral w.U take place at Reefton to-day.
A former resident of Greymouth. Mr William Arbor Hopkins, died at Napier on Monday morning at the age of 49 years. A son of the late Mr and Mrs Edward Hopkins, deceased was born at Greymouth and went to Napier 25 vears ago. The’ ? he followed the trade of cabinetmaking, ill health causing his retirement several years aeo. He leaves his wife and two sons, Edward and Rov. and two daughters. Mrs P. Lamason (wife of Pilot Officer Lamason, D.F.C.) and Jessica, also two brothers, Alfred (Auckland) and Frederick (Wellington) and eight sisters, Mesdames E. J. Rundle (Greymouth), C. Mclntosh (Wellington), C. G. Moss (Greymouth). T. Lewis (Greymouth). W. McGrath (Greymouth). C. White (Christ church). P. Tite (Queensland) and Miss Nita Hopkins (Christchurch).
