KUMARA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent!. The first meeting of the newly elected Kumara School Committee was held on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs J. Reedy (Chairman), R. Chant, B. Becker, and H. Hamer (Hon. Sec.). An apology was received from Mr. Little, who is away in Christchurch. The Chairman extended a cordial welcome to the new member, Mr. B. Becker. ’ A letter was received from the District Health Nurse regarding certain cleansing necessary with disinfectant. The Secretary said the necessary articles had been procured and the Nurse/s inseructions were being carried out. The Education Board wrote drawing the Committee’s attention to the Lighting Restriction Emergency Regulations and suggesting that the “black out” requirements of the school be ascertained from the local Lighting Controller. The Cl'iurman said this matter had already had the necessary attention. Messrs J. , Reedy and H. Hamer were authorised to sign cheques on behalf of the' Committee. The Headmaster sent a request for a supply of coal for the winter. It was resolved that a ton of coal be procurer, delivery to be made before 'the school re-opens aftei' the May term holidays. Mrs. Wild wrote acknowledging the Committee’s message .of condolence. Regarding the Committee’s request to have the unfinished playing area put in order, the Board advised that the Superintendent of Works would discuss the matter on his next visit to the district. Regarding the air raid shelter, the Board advised that the Public Works Engineer has notified the Board that Kumara cannot be considered a special case, and consequently! the Board cannot authorise any expenditure on the proposal, and no portion of the expenditure can be charged to the Board s incidental grant. The ballot papers for the election of one member of the North West Ward on the Canterbury Education Board were issued to members. Accounts passed for payment totalled £4/9/8- !•
