Mr. C. McQueen, who has retired from the position. of municipal waterworks engineer at Greymouth after some 40 years’ service, was farewelled in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday evening. It was the first occasion on which members of the Council and inside and outside staffs had combined to say farewell to an employee. Re- 1 Terence was made to the fact Mr. McQueen was the oldest employee, both in years and in. length of service, he being the first engineer .at the waterworks. Many tributes were paid to his fine record. On behalf of the Council, the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham), presentea Air McQueen with a retiring allowance, and, on behalf of the staffs, the Town Clerk (Mr. F. H. Denton) presented Mr. McQueen with a gift. Tributes were also paid to the public services of Mrs. McQueen, as a musician. Mr. and Mrs. McQueen will leave to-morrow for Lower Hutt, wh’ere they will reside.
