N.Z. AERODROMES

New Defence Plans

WELLINGTON, March 19.

The Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, has announced that the War Cabinet has revised the plans for the defence of aerodromes, and, in this connection it has been decided that Brigadier R. Young, Director-General of the Home Guard, shall be appointed Inspector of Army Aerodrome Defences, in addition to his present duties, and that he will have associated with him two staff officers, one from the Army and one from the Air Force. The Army officer will be Lieut. G. G. Beaven, who has just returned from the Middle East, after having served with the Second N.Z.E.F,, and who was an officer of a battalion assigned to the defence of Maleme aerodrome in Crete. The Air Force officers will be Wing Commander M. F. Calder, R.N.Z.A.F.
