Fighting in Sumatra AUSTRALIANS IN JAVA.

LONDON, March 13. It is officially announced in Tokio that Japanese troops occupied Medan in Sumatra, this morning. (Rec. 9.10.) MELBOURNE, Mar. 15. ' Dr. Van Mook, Lieut.-Governor of the Dutch East Indies, who is at present in Melbourne, states that most of the Dutch forces were defending Bandoeng, made good their escape before it fell to the Japanese.

' Dr. Van Mook said that he had received news that Dutch forces were still fighting in north and central Sumatra.

He added that he has received no report in regard to three thousand Australians who, when last heard of, were fighting in the mountain country east and west of Bandoeng.
