Roosevelt’s Action AGAINST DEFIANT EMPLOYER. (Rec. 11.10). NEW YORK, March 14. The “New York Times” Washington correspondent says: President Roosevelt is reported to be ready to commandeer the Toledo, Peoria ana Western Railroad, on which there is at present a strike of the workers, unless the Railroad Company President heeds his (Mr. Roosevelt’s) personal appeal to comply with a National War Labour Board order requir.ng the arbitration of the _ wage dispute Mr. Roosevelt is insistent that, the national ’ agreement, between industry and labour banning strikes and lock-outs for the duration of the war must be obeyed by both the employers and the employees. According to the War Labour Board officials, Mr. George McNear, the Railroad’s President, has been defying the United States -Government since February 27, when the Board directed in the arbitration, dispute. Therefore, the officials regard the case as very important since. If Mr. McNear successfully defies the Board, it is believed that its effectiveness in preserving labour peace will be ended.
