“Tirpitz” Refuels (Rec. 9.0.) LONDON, March 12. The Stockholm correspondent ofthe “Daily Telegraph” states that the German battleship “Tirpitz” which the British attacked off Norway, has put into Trondheim to refuel. “PRINZ EUGEN’S DAMAGE. (Rec. 11.50.) LONDON, March 13. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Stockholm representative says: There is confirmation that the German cruiser . “Prinz Eugen,” which escaped from • Brest, was more severely damaged than was at first believed. The cruiser was hit in a vulnerable section aft, causing damage to the steering gear, propellors, engineroom. She is at present unseawor- ' thy. It is expected that, the “Prinz Eugen” wil,l attempt to return to her home base after emergency repairs, because 'Trondheim has no dock big enough to accommodate her.
The “Gneisenau”
UNDER REPAIR. RUGBY, March 12, Recent photographs of the Gneisenau taken by the R.A.F. at Kiel, show the battleship is lying in dock, covered with snow. The bow has been removed from the forepart of the ship, which shows a large hole. The deck plating has been removed from a large area between the forward gun turret and bows. The portion thus exposed stretches . across one deck and quite likely is down as far as the water line. This evidence indicates that the three German ships were probably moved .from Brest, in order that the bomb damage might be repaired in the comparative safety of a Baltic port.
