Lull Reported LONDON, March 12. A communique from General Sir Archibald Wavell’s headquarters in New Delhi says that there is a temporary lull in Burma and that the British troops have withdrawn further north. DEMOLITION AT RANGOON LONDON, March 12. The Associated Press Mandalay correspondent reports that the destruction of Rangoon’s refineries was carried out by an expert who witnessed the demolitions in southern Russia last vear. The power-works, docks, dock installations, railway equipment and communications were dynamiated. BRITISH AIR RAIDS LONDON, March 12, In raids on Moulmein, one British machine dropped six bombs on oil tanks and also attacked enemy aeroplanes on the ground. PRAISE FOR TROOPS RUGBY, March 12. There is little fresh news of the situation in Burma. According to authoritative circles, the British forces, which probably suffered heavy casualties, are still intact, and withdrawing into central Burma. A message received in London states that General Alexander says the troops fought “beyond all praise”, especially British armoured formations, despite the scope being limited by the nature of the ground, such as jungle and water courses in rice fields.
