STOCKTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondents A special general meeting of the Ngakawau Miners ’Union was held in the Stockton Hall on Sunday, Mr F. Connew presiding. The balanceof the Union and the Buller Miners’ Central Committee were accepted as satisfactory. ■ Mr F. Con,-’ new was re-elected to the Presidency of the Union, unopposed. The position of Vice-President will be finalised at the next general meeting. Messrs J. Clarke and I. Tyler will contest the secretaryship. Mr W. Berry was elected unopposed to the Treasurership. Messrs J’. Fitzsimmons, C. Barnes and T. Douglas will go to the ballot as Check Inspec J tors. The new committee members are: Messrs G. Geddes, D. Millar, W. Rees and P. Murray. Messrs F. Connew and A. McArthur will represent the Union on the Bullei’ Trades Council. Messrs O. Henderson and S. Barnes will contest the position of Check Weighman. Mr H. Campbell, senr., was appointed returning officer and Messrs C. Steele and D. McBean were appointed Scrutineers for the ballot. Mr F. Connew was the successful nominee for the ’Presidency of the Buller Miners’ Central Committee. Mr H. L. Evans was elected unopposed by the Union and all other branches in the Buller district. A dispute concerning a claim for the difference between 16s 3d and 20s Id fox- twenty eight days, by one of the Union members was handed over to the Buller Central Commit-' tee. It is anticipated that a disputes meeting will decide all the outstanding disputes in the Buller district in the very near future. Mrs J. Carrick returned on Saturday after spending a week-end in Christchurch. ■

Private P. Carrick spent the weekend with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Carrick.

Mr J. Lavery returned this week, after attending camp for Home Guard training. Mr W. Battershall is unable to follow his employment in the mine, owing to a foot injury. Mr P. Murray is at present on the sick list, and unable to work. Mr J. Morgan, who has been a pa-' tient Mx the Christchurch Hospital for some months, has returned to Stockton.

Mrs D. Lambert left last Monday to spend a week at Karamea. Mrs J. Collier, of Westport, was a visitor on Thursday and was the guest of Mr and Mrs H. L. Evans.
