ELECTRICAL STORM
In Canterbury GIRL FOUND DEAD. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. Dorothy Mae Pounsford, aged eight years, was found dead in a paddock at Bromi’ey this afternoon. It is thought that she was struck by lightning during one of the most v.oient electrical storms for some years, which swept Christchurch and a number of country districts of the province. Hailstones at. least threequarters of an inch in diameter fell during the severest period. Glasshouses, apple orchards, and tomato crops were damaged extensively. Preceding and during the hailstorm were vivid flashes of lightning, with great thunderclaps. The electric power line at Riccarton was struck by lightning, and installations at the power station were damaged. All services connected with the overhead reticulation —about half the total number in the area—were cut out
temporarily, and many other conections in the Borough were also broken. __
