GUERRILLAS IN CRETE
Still Fighting Nazis
(Rec. 6.45). LONDON, Feb. 23. The “Daily Telegraph” says: “Since their occupation of Crete, the Germans have made every effort co shroud the island in secrecy, but, according to Greek circles in London, the Nazis’ plan met with as little success as that of the subjugation of Cretan guerrillas. These irregulars have rongz-since been blood brothers with British and Dominion soldiers who are still at liberty in mountain fastnesses. ■ They range the island nightly, attacking enemy posts and communications. Their activities so increased that the Germans were forced to adopt new repressive measures. Axis forces, mostly Germans, were drafted to the island to inflict retaliation on the inhabitants. Ono village was cleaned of its population because the people were suspected of aiding the patriots,. Hundreds from central Crete and Candia have been sent to Heraklion as hostages.
