Opera House Now Showing: -Meet the Wildcat’’ and “Gambling on the High Seas.” “MEET THE WILDCAT.” Comedy and suspense compete for attention in the hilarious comedy drama, “Meet the Wildcat,” now showing at the Opera House with Margaret Lindsay & Ralph Bellamy sharing the honours. Highlighted by rollicking comedy as well as mastery and suspense, the fast moving drama is told in and around the famed art galleries of the Mexican metropolis. Miss Lindsay has the role of a dare-devil girl photographer for a noted picture magazine and Bellamy portrays the detective with whom she falls in love after knocking him out with her camera. Joseph Shildkra'ut is featured as the mysterious leader of the underworld organisation and Allen Jenkins has the comedy lead as the befuddled taxi-driver who turns detective with near disastrous consequences to all concerned. Other favourites in the cast include Jerome Cowan, Robert O. Davis and Frank Puglia. “GAMBLING ON THE HIGH SEAS.” The tranquility of operations on board a gambling ship, moored outside the three - mile limit off the coast of California, is rather rudely disturbed in Warner Bros.’ new film, “Gambling on the. High Seas” now showing at the Opera House, with Wayne Morris and Jane Wyman in leading roles. The locale of the greater part of this story, provides possibilities galore for situations packed full of the kind of action which one naturally expects to see in a film of this type. Morris is a newspaper reporter, who with .the effective aid of Miss Wyman goes out to expose the intricacies of the highly organised gambling racket and putting together a jig-saw of circumstances surrounding two murders.

Regent Theatre Finally To-night: “IT STARTED WIH EVE.” Commencing Matinee Wednesday afternoon and Thursday: “Cash and Carry, bringing Ann Sotheran to the screen. Latest Maisie Film Funniest of the Series. When Maisie starts going the rounds with a prizefighter and his hardboiled manager, the entertainment banners fly high. This is exactly what happens at the Regent Theatre when Metro-Go! dwyn-May-er’s “Cash and Carry,” starring Ann Sothern, goes on display. All the previous adventures of the popular Brooklyn chorus girl seem only buildups for this, the fastest-moving, funniest of the lot. Miss Sothern has never been afforded better lines and situations and she makes the most of every one of them. Her jitterbug number in the early sequence of the film is something that old as well as new Maisie fans will never forget A strong cast appears in support of the star in this film, which tells the story of Maisie’s experiences when she enters the household of a young fighter and his manager as companion for the fighter’s invalid mother. How she launches the boxer on the type of career, he really desires and how she knocks the chip off his manager’s shoulder 1 finds romance in the process, makes for one of the most entertaining motion pictures of the year. Cast as the manager is George Murphy, recently seen in “The Navy Steps Out”. Murphy has a straight dramatic role, sans song or dance, in this film, and turns in a top performance.
