TANGIER BOMB
BRITISH BLAMED. AGITATION BY MOORS. [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Rec. 10.40). LONDON. February 9-. ; “The Times” Tangier correspond-; ent says: Anti-British hostility is' fomenting in Tangier, where a bomb" explosion on the wharf killed twen-ty-five persons and injured sixty. The explosion occurred shortly after the steamer from Gibraltar left the wharf, it departing earlier than usual. The hostility is tomentimi. apparently with the consent of the; authorities. Spanish police also are; spreading the report that the British were responsible for the explosion oi< the wharf. At a mass meeting of the Moors, inflammatory anti-Brit- 1 ish leaflets were distributed, and the police did not resist an attack on the British post office and other; British premises which were damaged. A Union Jack .was burned in a public square. The whole affair was well organised under the lead-; ershin of well known German agents. ; The British Consul-General. Mr. Gas-5 coigne. is Lodging a strong protest'; with the Commander of the Spanish; forces, General Uriate.
