JAP NAVAL LOSSES
FIVE SUBMARINES AND 29 PLANES AT HAWAII. TOKIO, December 18. The Japanese Navy, in a communique, stated: Five “special” Japanese submarines and 29 planes failed to return from the attack on Hawaii. JAPS LOSE DESTROYER. THREE U.S. SUBMARINES CLAIMED. ’ ' (Rec. 12.36). LONDON, Dec. 18. The German Official News Agency stated: The Japanese Navy admit the loss of. a destroyer on Wednesday. They claim that three enemy submarines were sunk in the same locality. The place of the engagement is not disclosed. TWO-MEN SUBMARINES. WASHINGTON, December 16 The United States Navy Department reported capture of a tiny twoman Japanese submarine. It was launched from a vessel 100 miles off Hawaii. It is obviously a suicide craft, with a range of only 200 miles. It has a beam of five feet, is 41 feet long, and has a 4-foot conning-tower. Its size makes the vessel easy to launch over the side of a ship. JAP SUBMARINE. ATTACKED OFF U.S. COAST. (Rec. 12.17). SAN FRANCISCO, December IS. The Air Force Command has announced that. American planes, while reconnoitering, attacked an enemy submarine. As to the details, time and locality, are not revealed. This is however, the first official announcement since the war indicating presence of enemy submarines off the Pacific coast.
