APIA, October 28.

In addition to £5OOO formerly raised in Western Samoa for the purchase of fighter planes, the Red Cross Society of Apla has raised a further £630 for the purchase of an ambulance for the use of feces in the Middle East.

The Samoa Legislative Council election takes place on November b. Five candidates have been nominated for two seats for European-elected members. The candidates are Mr O. F. Nelson, a sitting member; Mr A. G. Smyth, a merchant: Mr Arthur Williams, a plumber; Mr F. W. Glover, a store manager; and Mr Amando Stowers, a planter.
